Schools in the Philippines have been absent of students for two years. Therefore, it was with great joy we welcomed 140 enthusiastic students (a record number and close to our capacity as we limit class sizes) back to Hands of Hope Faith Academy (HOHFA) on August 1st.
In preparation for the students returning to classes, we invited Dr Gapoy, a principal from a public school, to spend a Saturday morning with our teaching staff to train them in the use of diagnostic tests. Assessing each student’s individual level of reading, writing, and mathematics is important (even more so after 2 years of lockdowns). The information gained from such tests helps to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses which then enables teachers to create personalised learning plans. Click here to view photos.
HOHFA Sponsorship
It is encouraging to see the school’s role increasing. However, this also means we need many more sponsors. Children in impoverished communities’ often study in rundown overcrowded classrooms which are frequently inaccessible during the rainy season. The result? Poor lesson quality, mediocre grades, and high dropout rates. HOHFA’s main objective is to help the poor and the underprivileged in attaining quality education. New Land Purchased – Thank you
In our June newsletter, we mentioned we were raising money to purchase 4000sqms of land. The price of the land was NZ$45,000. We are very happy (okay, very very very happy 😃) to report the money has been raised and the land has been purchased. Buying this piece of land was strategic for us as it has road access, next to a canal, and it connects to our existing 10000sqm lot. Thank you so much.
Small Groups
Marivic and the rest of the leadership team are thriving in their leadership responsibilities with small groups. Small groups, a) provide a better place for people to discuss the Word of God, b) identify and release people in their giftings, c) minister to each other, and d) facilitate outreach. Small group leaders and members are often out in the villages, sharing and praying for people. It’s great to see. In fact, when I think of the purpose behind our small groups the verses from Hebrews 10:24-25 come to mind, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near”.
